Statement of Judge William J. Lavery
Regarding the Death of Judge Hugh Curran

Judge Hugh Curran was not only a good friend, but a man of great integrity who gave to the community from his earliest years in countless ways. He served his country as a pilot during World War II and flew 21 flights over Germany before he was 22 years old.  He was a decorated war hero who went on to become a lawyer, a legislator, a city attorney, the mayor of Bridgeport, a banker and one of the best judges the State of Connecticut has ever had. Throughout this distinguished career, he never stopped caring for the people he served. Judge Curran also was a devoted family man, leaving behind a wonderful wife, five children and nine grandchildren. I know they will miss him sorely, as will the entire Connecticut judiciary. His death is a great loss to all of us.
