Online Dispute Resolution

Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) can help resolve disputes in a simple, fast and low-cost way. ODR is an alternative to going through the regular court process, which generally has more complicated procedures and rules, takes a longer time, and frequently requires you to be physically present in a courthouse to pursue or defend the claim. ODR is currently available in two types of cases:

The first is for specific types of money disputes called contract collection cases (C40) filed on or after January 2, 2019 in the Hartford and New Haven Judicial Districts. Information can be found at the bottom of this page.

The second is for small claims disputes. All small claims cases filed on or after December 1, 2021 will participate in an ODR settlement conference prior to trial.

ODR is Easy
You don't need specialized knowledge about the law, rules, or evidence. The court supplies the forms related to the programs. They are easy to complete and will save you time and money.

ODR is Convenient
You can participate from anywhere using telephone or videoconferencing technology. Contact the clerk if you received notice of an ODR program and do not have a computer or smart phone that you can use to participate.

ODR is Efficient
ODR is scheduled early in the process so that you can reach an agreement that will work for everyone quickly.
