Law Library ServicesLibrary Services

Judicial Branch Law Libraries are closed until further notice. Please contact us by phone or email.

Accommodations - The law libraries are equipped with visual aids; several are equipped with reading machines. Please call ahead to let the library staff know how we can best assist you.

Circulation - In general, primary sources and research books such as statutes, records and briefs, citators, digests, encyclopedic works, reference books, loose-leaf services, and Connecticut materials do not circulate. Secondary sources such as journals, anatomical charts and treatises may circulate for a limited time period, depending on the availability of photocopy facilities and other local considerations. All loans are subject to immediate recall.

Borrowing is limited to officers of the court and pro se litigants. However, restrictions on removals may be waived or restrictions may be imposed as the local law librarian deems necessary, taking into account high demand, feasibility of replacement, duplicate copies, and the immediate needs of the Court.

Copyright - The law libraries reserve the right to refuse any document delivery request that the library staff believes would be a violation of copyright laws.

Copy Services - For copies made by patrons, the following charges, per copy, apply: Librarian helping patron

  • Photocopies: $0.10
  • Microfiche: $0.10
  • Computer Printouts: $0.10

For copies made by staff and sent to patrons, the following charges, per copy, apply:

  • Photocopies: $0.25 plus postage & handling $1.00
  • Microfiche: $0.25 plus postage & handling $1.00
  • Computer Printouts: $0.25 plus postage & handling $1.00

Fax Services - The law libraries will fax library materials to patrons upon request. Charges are:

  • $0.25 per page.
  • Sending a fax longer than 20 pages is at the discretion of the sending library.

Librarian assisting patron Interlibrary Loans - Materials not owned by the Connecticut Judicial Branch law libraries may be borrowed from other libraries. Charges, if any, are set by the lending library. Patrons will be advised of any charges before the materials are shipped, and will be notified when the materials are received.

Reference Services - It is the reference mission of the library staff to assist in a timely and efficient manner all individuals who are researching the law or pursuing legal rights and remedies. The library staff will attempt to provide professional bibliographic assistance, legal reference, research guidance, and accurate referral. The law libraries provide in-person, telephone, and mail reference service. Reference requests may also be made electronically from our Reference Desk. Please note, the library staff is prohibited from rendering any advice, opinion, or interpretation of the law.
