Training Sessions
The Connecticut Judicial Branch is offering training on Connecticut legal research and courthouse resources for new and experienced attorneys.  There will be three locations around the state as indicated below. Sessions will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Jury Assembly Room in each courthouse.
Attorneys and paralegals are invited to attend this free training.

Connecticut Legal Research and Judicial Branch Law Library Services

  • What are the key publications needed for practicing law in Connecticut?

  • What publications are available electronically, in print, or both?

  • What do you mean it’s not all on the web?

This program looks at specific legal resources needed for practice in Connecticut. The basic bibliographic collection needed to effectively practice civil, criminal, family and property law will be reviewed, including various sources for primary and secondary legal information, the variety of formats, and their strengths and weaknesses. Learn about the extensive resources available at the Judicial Branch Law Libraries and the range of
services our staff can provide to assist you in your practice. Discover information resources accessible in our facilities and those from your own desktop.

Judicial Branch Law Library Services
This session will provide you with information concerning the extensive resources available at the Judicial Branch Law Libraries. Familiarize yourself with the Law Libraries’ print, microfiche, and electronic collection of primary and secondary resources. Discover what information is accessible at our facilities and what information is available from your own desktop. Learn about the various services our staff can provide to assist you in your practice.

E-Services and Web-Based Court Information

  • How do you update your information with the Statewide Grievance Committee?

  • What if you cannot remember the date of your pretrial in that Hartford case?

  • How do you file a complaint or a jury claim electronically?

This session will provide you with the answers to these and many other questions. At this session, you will also learn the basics of electronic filing of case initiations and documents and obtain an overview of the wide range of web-based information and interactive services available on the Judicial
Branch website, www.jud.ct.gov.

Court Service Centers
This session will provide you with information about Court Service Centers and Public Information Desks, which are court-based facilities that provide attorneys, self-represented parties and members of the public with a variety of resources, such as statewide calendar and docket information, court forms, and Judicial Branch publications.

Foreclosure Mediation Program
In this session, learn about the newly expanded and mandatory Foreclosure Mediation Program.
Its purpose is to assist the homeowner/borrower whose one-to-four, owner-occupied, primary residential property is the subject of a mortgage foreclosure action. Learn how homeowners and their lenders meet with a Judicial Branch mediator with the goal of reaching a fair, voluntary, negotiated agreement where foreclosure is avoided.
