“Law School for Journalists” Program

Topic: Inside the Court/Behind the Scenes:
             Dilemmas Posed by Sexual Assault Cases”

Members of the media are invited to attend a “Law School for Journalists” on Wednesday, March 19, 2008. (Snow date: Wednesday, March 26, 2008).

The event is organized by the Judicial-Media Committee’s Events Subcommittee.

The room where the presentation will occur seats a maximum of 90 people. Pre-registration is recommended and will be terminated if capacity is reached prior to the event. You will receive confirmation of your online registration.

The agenda for the presentation is as follows:

CBA President William H. Prout Jr. will introduce Supreme Court Justice Richard N. Palmer, who will make opening remarks.
9:10 a.m.

Judge Robert Holzberg will provide the ABCs of a criminal case working its way through court.

Judge Susan Handy will moderate a panel of experts who will discuss various topics involving sexual assault cases and sexual offenders. Scheduled speakers include: Public Defender Tom Ullman, Prosecutor Anne Mahoney, Attorney Hope Seeley, Victim Advocate Adriana Venegas-McCormick, Chief Probation Officer William Anselmo, and David D’Amora, director of agency programs for The Connection, Inc. He also is director of The Connection Inc.’s Center for the Treatment of Problem Sexual Behavior.
11:30 a.m.
to noon
Lynne Tuohy of The Hartford Courant will conduct a brief session on access to courts and documents, writing around legal jargon and common mistakes made by reporters covering court cases.
